1. The quotes are taken from the in-depth interview with Kobi Farhi, fhe founding member of Israel´s breakthrough band and the pioneers of oriental metal, ORPHANED LAND, together with his generation younger bandmate, Chen Balbus.

“When I was a kid, every second person statistically here was a junky. I have a junky in my family. A lot of spirituality or religion and a lot of hard-core people on the other hand, all these hard-core people all together, this is ORPHANED LAND in a way.” (KOBI FARHI)

“If Israel is described as a holy land or as a promised land, we saw it and still do see it as an orphaned land because wars are going on, bloodshed is going on, conflicts are going on…  I don’t see anything holy about bloodshed or blood spinning on the land. That’s why we have a name that’s so meaningful and our lyrics have become so meaningful and our music has become so original and unique. ” (KOBI FARHI)

“”His extremes of happiness and sadness. If you visit a Yehuda Poliker show, you’ll want to cry and dance on the table at the same show. In my opinion, he is the greatest artist in Israel. He is a very big inspiration for ORPHANED LAND.” (KOBI FARHI)

“That concept is based on story of Plato – The Allegory of the Cave. It’s about people who were sheltered their whole lives in a cave. They saw nothing but the shadows on the walls. They were told there that this is your reality. That’s a reference to real life. It was true 3,000 years ago and it’s still true. It’s still relevant these days as people choose to look away and be comfortable with the situation as it is, even if it’s not that good.” (CHEN BALBUS)
